We wanted to begin informing our parish about Saint Stephen's members being part of an Alabama medical team that will go to Haiti on January 13th. We are asking for donations of small bottles of liquid Zertex for the smaller children in the clinic. They can be left in the outreach alcove until January 7th.
The team is made up from parishes in our Diocese: Saint Stephen's, St. Mary’s, and St. Andrew’s (from Birmingham) and Canterbury Church from Tuscaloosa.
Dr. Mike Moore , Libba Sanders, and CJ Van Slyke make up our contingent.
I have always wanted to step out of my comfort zone to do something meaningful for people in need who live outside of our local community. Several years ago my daughter Abbey and I were planning to join a mission trip to Haiti that Russell Kendrick was organizing, when the devastating earthquake there made travel to the country much more difficult and the trip was cancelled. Now I have another chance to do something tangible for the people there, and I am excited about joining CJ and the other members of our team who have traveled to Haiti many times in the past for this medical mission trip in January. The stories of these veterans about their experiences in addressing medical needs of some of the people in this poorest country in the western hemisphere, and of the opportunities we will have to make a positive impact on their health are inspiring, and I look forward to our trip together.
