Firehouse Shelter

Since December 1983, The Firehouse Shelter has been operating as a men's homeless shelter. In our early years our primary goal was to meet the food, shelter and clothing needs of the homeless men in the Birmingham metro area. Over the past decade, Firehouse has greatly expanded its original mission. Today, it offers affordable housing (at 15 different sites) to over 200 people every night and serves at least 300 men each day in some capacity.

How St. Stephen’s Can Help: Skilled workers such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters and auto mechanics are always needed to help maintain the housing Firehouse Shelter provides and to assist clients. Volunteers are also needed to serve meals at the shelter, join the mentoring program or drive guests to appointments and work.
