Outdoor Church & Care of Creation Sunday, October 2

On Sunday, October 2, we will observe Care of Creation Sunday with special scripture readings, sermon, music, and prayers designed to help us reflect on our responsibilities to care for the glorious creation God has entrusted to our care. Christians throughout our worldwide Anglican Communion mark a Season of Creation from September 1 through October 4, the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi. Our Saint Stephen’s community is pleased to be a part of this international movement “to pray and celebrate with creation, focus on the story of Earth, and commit to a ministry of healing the Earth.” Parishioners involved in leading our Care of Creation ministries will be among those serving in these services.

For our 9:00 and 11:15 services on October 2, we will worship together outdoors in our back parking lot. Please be sure to bring your own camp chairs and dress comfortably for worship in the great outdoors (knowing that it may still be quite warm here in Alabama, even in early October). Children will remain with their families during the outdoor worship services, but sidewalk chalk and coloring sheets will be provided. The nursery will be open during the usual timeframe for Sundays.

We hope you’ll join with us for worship on this Care of Creation Sunday, October 2, whether in the back parking lot at 9:00 and 11:15 or in the Nave at 7:45 and 5:00. We will livestream the 9:00 service as usual; see the worship email on Saturday, October 1, for information on how to connect.

May God the Father, who clothes the lilies of the field and feeds the birds of the air,

provide us with all we need for life in its fullness. Amen.

May God the Son, who fed the five thousand and turned water into wine,

feed us with his life and transform us in his love. Amen.

May God the Holy Spirit, who hovered over the waters of creation and formed the world from chaos,

form us in the likeness of Christ and renew the face of the earth. Amen.

And the blessing of God almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

Be with you and remain with you always. Amen.
