Volunteering with Family Promise
Beds are set-up and made in Carpenter Hall, the food is stocked, and the names of the dinner and overnight hosts fill out the volunteer list. Four weeks every year, Saint Stephen’s joins with 13 other local churches in the Birmingham area to host Family Promise - a program for families who need some temporary shelter and meals to help get back on their feet.
Saint Stephen’s would like to thank our outgoing coordinator, Cody Pugh, who has served Family Promise well and we are grateful for his time and dedication to this ministry. The time it takes to get Family Promise set up for our guests is a labor of love. There are so many moving parts and it is like a well-oiled machine due to the coordinator’s efforts. In February, Cody worked with our incoming coordinator, Chandler Busby, to make our week a success. Chandler Successfully coordinated our May/June week and will again be heading up our our next Family Promise week on September 8-15. You can find all of the details and the sign-up sheet here.

Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
Luke 14:12-14
