Laundry Love
Laundry Love is a neighboring movement that partners with groups, schools, and local laundromats to wash the clothes and bedding of low-income and/or no-income families and person(s).
Saint Stephen’s excited to be apart of this organization’s mission and we bring a team to serve on the first Tuesday of every month at a laundromat in Woodlawn.
Families who are financially challenged lack the resources to purchase their own washer and dryer, and laundromat are expensive. It can be demeaning to go to school or work in dirty clothes. Laundry love assists individuals and families each month and at the same time makes connections in the community, discovering other ways that assistance is needed and when possible, providing resources. Our goal is to be a caring presence in the community, treating all with love and respect while connecting with families in need.

In addition to laundry support, guests receive essential items during Laundry Love hours. Donations of the following are greatly appreciated:
Personal hygiene products
Coats and seasonal clothing
Food items
School supplies
Holiday treats (such as Halloween candy)
These donations significantly expand the impact of the program beyond laundry services.
-
Volunteers engage with guests in meaningful ways, including:
Reading to children
Conversing with parents
Offering encouragement and support
Praying with guests when requested
The goal is to provide relational care alongside practical assistance.
-
Because volunteers show up consistently each month, trust has developed over time. Guests often feel comfortable sharing personal stories, struggles, and specific needs.
Being a compassionate, attentive listener allows volunteers to offer care that extends far beyond meeting laundry needs — creating a ministry rooted in dignity, relationship, and hope.
