Saint Stephen’s to Partner with Birmingham Churches in Lee County Home Rebuild
The Diocese of Alabama has been invited to rebuild a home for the Melton/Griffin family in Lee county that was destroyed by a tornado. The devastation from the recent tornados was unfathomable. The Melton/Griffin family lost their home and the life of their son, AJ, in the tragedy that struck a few months ago.
Our Diocese is sponsoring this build and Saint Stephen’s is actively recruiting people from all local congregations to respond. Our disaster team of Rob Gellings, Xan Glover, and myself met last week to look at information and the logistics and plan a trip to Lee County. We have previously partnered with St. Mary’s, Holy Apostles and St. Francis of Assisi to work on recovery from hurricane Michael and believe that this trip can accommodate up to 25 volunteers a day for those who are looking for a meaningful way of responding to the disasters that affected Lee County.
The dates for the build are September 30 - October 11.
If you know that you would like to join in the efforts, please click on this link. A local church has offered to provide housing for those who don’t want to stay in a hotel. We would love for you to join in reaching out and sharing God’s love with our East Alabama neighbors.
If you have questions about being part of this team or need to have more information, please contact me, Deacon CJ Van Slyke (205-914-3866), or Rob Gellings (robgellings@charter.net)
