The Rev. Dr. David Peters to Preach at Saint Stephen's on August 28
We are honored to welcome the Rev. Dr. David Peters as our guest preacher at all four services on this Sunday, August 28.
Peters is an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of Texas, where he is a church planter and vicar of St. Joan of Arc Episcopal Church in Pflugerville (a suburb of Austin). Author of the book Post-Traumatic God: How the Church Cares for People Who Have Been to Hell and Back (Church Publishing, 2016), Peters is an adjunct faculty member at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest.
Besides being our guest preacher, Peters is facilitating a special workshop for our Boomers group entitled, “Post-Traumatic Jesus: How to Read the Gospels with the Wounded.” Through this workshop, Peters will guide participants in reflecting on why “The post-traumatic Jesus is the only Jesus the church has known. In this presentation and interactive workshop, we will learn how to read the story of Jesus through a post-traumatic lens for cultivating healing and hope for a post-traumatic world.”
A graduate of Biblical Theological Seminary, Erskine Theological Seminary, and the Seminary of the Southwest, Peters served as a Marine and Army Chaplain in Iraq, and has experience in youth ministry, hospital and military chaplaincy, and parish ministry.
