Rector's Reading Class - February

Leaving Church.png

The month of February, the Rector’s Reading class will be discussing Searching for Sunday by Rachel Held Evans.  Evan’s profound reflections on the church share her thorny relationship with faith and a way back into the Church.  Her book, while very different is a continuation on our theme of the Christian faith in community after reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Life Together.  Evans is a bestselling author who has been feathered in The Washington Post, The Guardian, Christianity Today, Slate, HuffPost, and the CNN Belief Blog, and on NPR, BBC, Today, and The View.  She died unexpectedly in 2019 leaving a void in the hearts of many of her readers.  This book makes an impassioned plea for the value of Church, especially if you are one who has wanted to give it up. The Rector’s Reading class meets from 12:10-12:50pm in Room 228.  Participants are expected to provide their own copy of the book.

The schedule is as follows:

  • February 4: Baptism, pg. 3

  • February 11: Confession, pg. 43, Holy Orders, pg. 97

  • February 18: Communion, pg. 121, Confirmation, pg. 161

  • February 25: Anointing of the Sick, pg. 203, Marriage pg. 237
