Virtual Christmas Eve Nativity Pageant

The Christmas Eve Nativity Pageant has been a part of many Saint Stephen’s family traditions over the years. While we must do it differently in 2020, we will continue the tradition of allowing our children to be the first to share the Christmas story on Christmas Eve.

This year, ALL children are invited to participate!

From infants and toddlers to middle school age children, there is a place for everyone. And, because we are doing this virtually and pre-recording all parts, there are no Sunday morning rehearsals, and families don’t have to be in town to attend the 3pm service. You’ll be able to watch from wherever you may be on Christmas Eve. With our 2020 pageant, your extended family across the country will be also be able to worship with us.

Infants and toddlers, 2 and under, are invited to join in as Wee Beasties (sheep, horse, cow or donkey), Little Shepherds, or Little Angels. You will share photos of your child in a simple costume, and we will use those photos throughout the virtual pageant.

Young children (age 3 and older) will participate as Beasts of Bethlehem, Shepherds in the Fields, and Angels of the Heavenly Host. They will submit videos of themselves in costume singing simple carols related to their roles. Children in 4K through 4th grade will be practicing these carols during Bible Buzz on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am on Zoom. There will also be video practice guides for all provided along with recording tracks.

Children in first grade and up may wish to be considered for speaking roles in the pageant. These participants will submit videos of both their lines and the carols sung during the service. Older children will also have the opportunity to be considered for carol solos.

The deadline to be considered for a speaking role is November 19, and those with speaking roles will be notified by Monday, November 23.

Don’t stress over costumes! We will provide links to easy DIY costumes as well as inexpensive costumes to purchase. All photos and videos will be cropped to fit everyone in, so a headpiece is really all you need: Angels need a halo; shepherds can make their headdress out of a hand towel tied with string; and the little beasts can wear a headband with ears taped on. It really is that simple!

Detailed instructions on how to make each video will also be provided. All videos of speaking lines and carols will be due by December 11.

Please fill out the signup form. Once you’ve completed your form, you’ll receive an email with more details. We hope every child will be a part of this special tradition this year! At 3:00 pm on Christmas Eve the Saint Stephen’s Nativity Pageant, created with your photos and videos, will be premiered for your family and many others to enjoy together.

If you have questions, please contact Whitney Page or Jennifer Jones. We look forward to having your child/children join us!
