Name a Hive – Win some Honey
Did you know that the temperature in a beehive is fairly consistent? In the wintertime, as the temperature drops, bees cluster together and begin vibrating their wings to keep the queen warm. It’s another beautiful example of the community working together to care for the creator. There are many variables such as humidity, weight, and temperature that impact the health of each hive.
At Saint Stephen’s, we have four actively managed hives. Here the 20,000 to 80,000 bees per hive not only help care for the gardens and fauna of our neighborhood but produce honey that is enjoyed by our community. Caring for the ones who care for us is a way of honoring God’s creation. To do this, Saint Stephen’s beekeeper Scott Cochran has installed special monitors that will sync to our website. Soon, anyone will be to visit www.ssechurch.org/bees (not active yet) and actually see what is taking place in each of our hives.
In order to for this project to come to fruition, we need to name each hive! Please join us in a little hive naming competition. The top five names will each be given some Saint Stephen’s honey and be named in an upcoming E-News. Click here to submit your names. Multiple entries are accepted!
