Wednesday Night Live: Learning, Growing, and Breaking Bread Together
Wednesday nights at Saint Stephen’s are centered on two things: 1) learning and growing in our faith in Christ, and 2) breaking bread together as a church community. Our Wednesday Night Live program kicks off on January 11, running through mid May.
Beginning at 5:15 p.m., we are offering several small groups with something for everyone. From opportunities to study the Bible, engage in theological reflection, share supportive conversation with fellow parents, knit and crochet items for people in need of extra prayer, make folk music together, or practice with choir for upcoming Sundays, adults can find just the group to connect with their gifts and interests. You can find the complete Wednesday Night Live schedule for adults, children, and youth here, along with details about each of our small groups by clicking here.
Children and youth will also find activities tailored to them on Wednesdays. The children’s program, led by Jennifer Jones and Whitney Page, runs concurrent with the adult small groups, from 5:15-6:00, while youth small groups happen after dinner from 6:00-7:00.
As for breaking bread together, in 2023 we are happy to announce the return of our weekly Wednesday Night Live dinners. Running from mid January through mid May (with the exception of two weeks), we will host a churchwide dinner every Wednesday night. For our Wednesday NIght live dinners you do not need to make a reservation, just show up at the Parish Hall on January 11 and join us for dinner anytime between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Dinners are $7 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under ($25 max per family).
So often in the New Testament we hear stories of Jesus sharing a meal with friends. Even after Jesus’ death, it is when sharing a meal that two of Jesus’ friends realize that God has been there with them all along. Sharing a meal is an important part of our Christian tradition and a faithful way to build community.
This year, Traci Parker and Margaret Opolka are bringing their Meals for Mission program to Saint Stephen’s. (Traci began this program 20 years ago at Covenant Presbyterian.) Traci and Margaret will be cooking for Wednesday nights as well as creating a new meal program for the larger community in which people can pick up pre-prepared meals to warm up at home.(This meal pickup program will debut in late January or early February.)
All proceeds from the Wednesday night suppers and Meals for Mission sales will be go to Saint Stephen’s community outreach partners. We are thrilled to welcome this well-established program to our church and hope it will enhance our ability to share God’s love with the larger community.
